This is a book full of tales that we have all seen and heard before, but with a little bit of zest. The tales in this book are all based upon traditional folk tales. For example, “The Stinky Cheese Man” is based off of “The Gingerbread Man.” In this version, instead of people wanting to eat the stinky cheese man, they want him to go away, because he is stinky. When the sly fox tries to carry the stinky cheese man across the river, he gags and sneezes, and the poor smelly little man is thrown into the water where he falls apart. It is not only a great book for a good laugh, but it could be used in the classroom to look at how writers can take something that we know so well, and give it just a little twist and turn it into something completely different. You could have the students try and write their own goofy folk tale during a Writer’s Workshop. It is a great book that will always bring a smile to the face of its readers.
